The reason for this is because the two colors of light most needed by plants are blue and red, so growers will often create LED grow lights out of these two colors resulting in a purple glow. While this is beneficial for a number of reasons, the truth is any LED light that outputs true white light can be used, this is because white light is made up of the entire visible spectrum and so necessarily contains the appropriate colors needed by your plants!
